Freelance Music Industry Practitioner

Freelance Music Practitioners Wanted
Inspire the next generation of artists at dBs Institute of Music

Are you a songwriter, vocalist, MC, rapper, instrumentalist, producer, live sound engineer, event manager, composer, sound designer, or creative coder? We are looking for freelance practitioners to support our open days, outreach workshops, and applicant assessments.

This flexible, ad hoc role includes:

  • Meeting and inspiring prospective students at open days
  • Delivering workshops, taster sessions, and 1:1 coaching
  • Assessing portfolios, auditions, and interviews for our degree courses in performance, songwriting, vocal artistry, production, live sound, events, film and game composition or sound design, and creative computing

We are especially keen to hear from practitioners who:

  • Bring diverse musical backgrounds and lived experiences
  • Are passionate about their music industry experience, whether that means a national profile and high-level industry expertise, or deep roots in local scenes, grassroots activity, and the music cultures of their city
  • Have a good grounding in technology and production. If this is not your strongest area, we are committed to helping you upskill. What we value most is your artistry, openness, and passion for supporting the next generation of music-makers
  • Can empower and inspire students to see music as a future they can own

At dBs Institute of Music, diversity and inclusion are central to who we are. We know that the music industry and higher education have historically underrepresented many voices, and we want to change that. We actively encourage applications from women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic practitioners, LGBTQ+ creatives, and those with lived experience of underrepresentation in music and education.

This role is freelance to start with, but may lead to teaching or coaching opportunities as we expand our programmes in 2026. It will typically include some Saturday work.

Location: Bristol, Manchester or Plymouth

Contract: Freelance, ad hoc (day rate agreed)

A full job description and person specification is available for download alongside our full benefits booklet.

Diversity and open expression are fundamental to creativity.  We are committed to promoting a culture of diversity and inclusivity for all our employees and potential employees.

DBS Checks: Enhanced DBS clearance will be required.
